Thiruppavai | Day 23 | Maari malai muzhainjil

Thiruppavai is a collection of 30 devotional hymns composed by Saint Andal, one of the twelve Alwars of South India, in the 8th century. Written in praise of Lord Vishnu, these hymns are traditionally sung during the Tamil month of Margazhi (December–January). //Pasuram 23 In this pasuram, Andal compares Lord Krishna to a majestic lion resting in a mountain cave during the rainy season. When the lion awakens, it stretches, shakes its mane, roars powerfully, and steps out with natural authority. In the same way, the Gopis lovingly urge Lord Krishna to awaken from His divine rest and reveal His majestic presence. They request Krishna to come out from His inner chamber, leave His bed, and take His rightful seat on the royal throne. From there, they ask Him to listen patiently to the purpose of their early morning awakening — their humble prayers and their desire to receive His grace. This pasuram highlights Krishna’s dual nature: He is supremely powerful like a lion, yet easily accessible and compassionate to His devotees.
