A look into the new South station bus terminal expansion 🚍🚏

South station is Boston's main train station and busiest transfer hub. This station sees service from the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's south side commuter rail services, Subway service from the MBTA red line, Bus rapid transit service from the MBTA silver lines 1, 2, 3, & 4, Intercity train service from the National railroad passenger corporation or Amtrak, as well as Intercity bus service from Grayhound, Flixbus, Peter Pan bus lines and many other carriers serving various destinations across new England. Local bus service from the MBTA bus network also stops by this station. South station is the second largest transportation hub in New England (first place going to Logan international airport) as mentioned above, this station sees service from many different lines and companies. In November 2025 the newest addition to this transit hub was unveiled to the public. A expansion of the current bus terminal, expanding capacity by 13 gates. This is part of a large expansion package to the iconic train station by the developer behind the South station tower. To win public approval for this building, many upgrades to South station were proposed, full weather protected passage from the bus terminal to the train hall, an expanded bus terminal, additional parking, and fare gates for Commuter rail and Amtrak passengers.
