Hi Everyone, My latest video is from my recent trip to Jamaica. First I'm disappointed that this video does not meet my usual standards due to the large amount of camera shake at the beginning - still I think it is worth putting it up. I managed to catch all but the first couple of seconds of the First Officer's address at the start of the video. This was the first opportunity I had to record a daylight takeoff with my Sony NEX-5T camera. This camera has the best colour reproduction of all the cameras that I've used to date. Unfortunately even though I'd booked this flight months in advance my favourite seat for leaving Kingston (4A in the forward cabin) was already taken :( I was forced to choose my secondary seat of choice - 10A in the second cabin. Seat 10A has a good view of the side of the engine but you cannot see the turbines. The position of the armrest in relation to the windows means that it is very difficult to hold the camera still. Sadly the lens in use does not have image stabilization. Be that is it may. I used an external microphone connected to my camera and this does the usual very good job of capturing the ambient cabin noise and the nuances of the engine sound - from the deep bass of startup to the classic GE90 whine during the takeoff roll. Seat 10A is of course the nearest seat to the engine and there are definite differences in the engine tone from this seat compared to my usual seat in the forward cabin. The deep engine bass on startup rattles the cabin walls :) The weather on leaving Kingston was very overcast as you can see and cloud cover blocked out most of the spectacular landscape views that I was hoping for. I notice that the aircraft took a slightly different line - possibly due to the weather - choosing to follow along the south east coastline rather than turning inland. The fork lightning at 21:07 is definitely not to be missed! This flight was flown by Aircraft G-VIIT which incidentally was the same aircraft on which I arrived into Jamaica. Keep in eye out for my future videos. I will upload the takeoff from Gatwick and possibly the landing at Gatwick at a later date.
