In a 30-minute interview with Karan Thapar for The Wire, Dr Ian Woolford, a Lecturer in Hindi Studies at La Trobe University and one of the foremost experts on Bhojpuri/Maithili folk songs, confirmed that he, along with thirteen other Fellows of the Australia India Institute (earlier it was 12), have resigned and, in their letter of 29th March to the Vice-Chancellor of Melbourne University, stated that “the Indian High Commissioner to Australia has intervened in the Institute’s activities and there have been repeated instances where research or views that are unflattering to the image of India had been blanked”.
