Music and Lyrics by George David Weiss and George Douglas; arr. Norbert Hanf As performed at the October 30, 2022 concert "Peace Day 2022" Soloist Ian Goodrich "What a Wonderful World,” written by George Douglas and George David Weiss, was first recorded by Louis Armstrong and released in 1967 as a single. Weiss said he wrote the song specifically for Louis Armstrong, inspired by Armstrong's ability to bring together people of different races. It topped the pop charts in the United Kingdom, but performed poorly in the United States because the president of ABC records, whom Armstrong had recently signed a contract with, disliked the song and refused to promote it. After it was heard in the film Good Morning, Vietnam, it was reissued as a single in 1988 and rose to number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100. Armstrong's recording was inducted to the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. I see trees of green, red roses too I see them bloom for me and you And I think to myself, “What a wonderful world.” I see skies of blue and clouds of white The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night And I think to myself, “What a wonderful world.” The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky Are also on the faces of people passing by. I see friends shaking hands saying, “how do you do?” They’re really saying, “I love you.” I hear babies cry, I watch them grow They'll learn much more than I'll never know And I think to myself, “What a wonderful world.” Yes I think to myself, “What a wonderful world.” Questions, Comments, Concerns, and more at concordiachoralarts.org and concordiachoralarts@gmail.com
