How to Paint A Sunflower: Easy Acrylic Painting for Beginners

Today I'll show you how to paint a beautiful sunflower with step by step directions. Feel free to pause the video and re-watch parts when you need to. This lesson is meant for beginner acrylic painters. Supply List: Large Area/Wash Brush (flat) Size 8 Filbert Size 8 Round Small Round Detailer Colors I Used: Light Purple: mix equal parts red and blue and add some white Bright Yellow Terra Cotta (dull red-orange) Black Medium Brown Medium Green, add some black to make dark green Directions: Paint the entire canvas with light purple, this may take 2 or more layers. Let your paint dry completely. Trace a cup to create the center of your flower. Paint this circle medium brown. While the brown paint is still wet, add some black using a stamping motion to make some texture. Use a medium round brush and bright yellow to create the first row of petals. Let this layer dry completely. Mix yellow and orange and paint another layer of petals. Allow them to dry. Use medium brown and a detailer brush to dot in some seeds to the center of the flower. Mix a few variations of yellow and keep layering petals. Allow to dry as needed. Mix yellow and white to create some lighter petals as your last layer. Add depth by adding streaks of brown or orange to your inner petals radiating from the center. Use a small round brush to touch up the ends of your petals, creating crisp lines. Create a stem and the hint of leaves using light and dark green at the bottom of your canvas.
