Episode 929 Bernard (Gorden Kaye) collects items for a hospital jumble sale. Ena (Violet Carson) visits Ray (Neville Buswell) and learns about his transverse myelitis. She informs him that his sister Janice (Paula Wilcox) can't help him as she is in a remand home. Doctor Grant (John Bailey) discusses the details of Ray's condition with Ena. Stan (Bernard Youens) and Hilda (Jean Alexander) offer Ray lodging but Betty (Betty Driver) sees that they're only after his sick pay. Sandra (Patricia Fuller) borrows Elsie’s (Pat Phoenix) coat for an interview. Ray's nurse (Janet Lees Price) tries to lift his spirits. Ena shares the news of Ray's condition with the regulars causing the Ogdens to reconsider their offer. Val (Anne Reid) inadvertently gives away Ken's (Bill Roache) jacket with a secret letter in the pocket. The Ogdens withdraw their offer to Ray claiming that Irma (Sandra Gough) may decide to visit for Christmas. Ray is told he can leave the hospital and is offered accommodation at a disabled home. Betty gives Bernard Annie's (Doris Speed) castanets from Majorca for the jumble sale without permission. Ken discovers his jacket is missing. Audrey (Gillian McCann) and Dickie (Nigel Humphreys) tell Ray no one will take him in but Dickie feels guilty and against his better judgement agrees to let Ray live with them.
