Many sincere believers love God and want to obey Him, yet still live under a sense of pressure, fatigue, or quiet frustration. Not because they resist truth, but because they have never been shown where the Christian life actually comes from. Romans 6:8–11 reveals something decisive and freeing: when Christ was raised from the dead, those who are in Him were raised with Him. Resurrection life is not postponed until heaven. It is a present reality shared with Christ Himself. In this third message of The Abiding Life: Foundations in Romans 6–8, we explore what it truly means to be raised with Christ, and why the Christian life does not move forward by improving the self that tries to live for God. Paul does not call believers to strive for resurrection life. He announces that we already share it. This episode addresses: • Why death with Christ was never the destination, but the doorway • How resurrection life is present, not postponed • What Paul means by “consider yourselves alive to God” • Why trying harder cannot produce the life God has given • How obedience becomes fruit when Christ is the source Many believers assume that new life in Christ is something they must gradually become. Romans 6 speaks differently. It treats new life as a present reality, grounded in union with Christ rather than progress through self-effort. This teaching is especially for those who feel weary, uncertain, or stuck in cycles of striving. Scripture does not pressure us to feel resurrected. It points us to where life already is. You are not trying to become alive to God. You are alive to God because you share the life of the One who was raised. This episode continues our Romans 6–8 series, where we are learning to rest in Christ’s finished work and live from His indwelling life. A companion blog post is available here: https://www.rootedinchristjournal.com... May this truth bring clarity, rest, and quiet confidence as you continue walking with Christ. Mentor comment: Dr. John Woodward, Grace Fellowship International "Amen. This series continues to describe the links of the golden chain of abiding in the Lord Jesus Christ. What good news! The gospel of redemption (Rom 1:16; 3:24-5:9) is based on the person and work of Christ for us. The gospel of identification (Rom 5:12-8:39) is based on the believer’s union with Christ. Our co-death with Christ reminds us of the “not I” side of Galatians 2:20, and this lesson on our co-resurrection reminds us of “but Christ lives in me…” So obedience in sanctification is not based on self effort, but on Christ’s victorious Indwelling. [Believing Thomas] states that “obedience becomes the fruit of a Life that is already present” (Col. 1:27). How reassuring that the responsibility to “consider” this (to “reckon” in 6:10,11) is a Holy Spirit enabled response to being placed “in Christ” by God when we are saved (1 Cor 1:30). It is based on truth instead of imagination, so we count it to be true instead of pretending. May we meditate on this passage and make faith choices to rest in Christ as our Life. “that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection… (Phil. 3:10).
