A long-form audio essay exploring how AI may quietly return us to ancient human patterns of meaning, tribe, rhythm, and story. Note on format: my standard weekly videos are usually ~10 minutes with me on camera exploring how technology reshapes humanity. This upload is different. It’s the first in an occasional long-form History Deep Dive series: audio-led essays, read by me, that you can listen to while you walk, work, travel, or just sit with the ideas. The visuals are intentionally minimal (slow cycling imagery + chapter titles + progress bars for each chapter), so this is very much a listening experience. In this first deep dive, I explore what hunter-gatherer life can teach us about the age of AI. Not as nostalgia and not as archaeology, but as orientation. Because the human mind was forged in a world of small groups, deep attention, shared stories, uncertainty, rhythm, and a constant relationship with forces larger than ourselves. AI is reshaping the terrain again, and some of those ancient patterns are quietly becoming relevant. Across ten chapters we move from fire as the first intelligence, through tools as extensions of mind, the hunt as cooperation under uncertainty, story as a portable database of meaning, rhythm as the original operating system, tribe as belonging and distributed cognition, and finally into the idea that the future may look less like a technological singularity and more like a kind of techno-prehistory: supported by AI, but guided by ancient instincts. If you’ve felt the modern world speeding up, fragmenting, and becoming harder to hold in one coherent mental model, this is an attempt to slow things down, zoom out, and make the next chapter feel legible. Chapters: 00:00 Intro – Before the First Story 04:08 Fire 11:18 The Hunt 19:45 The Tool 27:55 The Story 36:19 The Rhythm 44:23 The Tribe 52:14 The Edge of Knowledge 59:13 The Mirror (Sapiens, Neanderthals, and AI) 1:07:28 The Future Past 1:15:53 The New Human If you’d like more of these historical deep dives (with each one focusing on what a different time period can teach us about AI), tell me, because I have a number of them planned and ready to record. This video explores hunter-gatherers and AI, prehistory and artificial intelligence, human evolution and technology, stories and meaning, attention and AI, tribal psychology, Neanderthals and Homo sapiens, cognitive offloading, techno-prehistory, future of work and purpose, and AI and human connection. It draws on widely discussed research and perspectives from anthropology, evolutionary psychology and cognitive science. In doing so, the content represents a personal synthesis rather than a definitive account. AI Contribution: This long-form essay was created with the assistance of AI as a research, thinking, and structuring tool. It was used to accelerate the expression of ideas, not to replace understanding or judgement - all perspectives, arguments, and conclusions are my own. #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #HumanEvolution #Psychology #Anthropology #FutureOfWork #Philosophy #Technology #AudioEssay #DeepDive
