Ep. 341 - After making our way up Lake Michigan along Michigan's western shore, we finally see Lake Huron for the first time and then cross the Mackinac Bridge and make it to the Upper Peninsula! We are joined by Michele from @Michele_AdVanture9 and her husband, James, who travel part time in their self-converted Promaster camper van! LOCATIONS & LANDMARKS FEATURED IN THIS VIDEO: Petoskey State Park (Petoskey, MI): A great place to find Petoskey stones! Bay View (Petoskey, MI): A beautiful, historic lakeside community founded in 1875 by Methodists as part of the Chautauqua movement — a national movement that combined faith, education, arts, and recreation into enriching summer programs. Set on 340 acres overlooking Little Traverse Bay, its a seasonal destination with a unique collection of over 400 Victorian-style cottages, churches, gathering halls, walking trails, and public spaces. Mackinaw City WaWatam Park Mackinac Bridge: Known as “Mighty Mac,” this iconic suspension bridge connects Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas, stretching 5 miles across the Straits of Mackinac where Lake Michigan meets Lake Huron. Opened in 1957, it’s one of the longest suspension bridges in the world and a true engineering marvel. Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse: At the base of the Mackinac Bridge in Mackinaw City, this light has guided ships through the Straits of Mackinac since 1892. Often called the “Castle of the Straits” for its striking design, this beautifully preserved lighthouse played a vital role in Great Lakes navigation until it was decommissioned in 1957, the same year the bridge opened. Today, it operates as a museum, where visitors can explore the keeper’s quarters, climb the tower for panoramic views, and learn about the history of shipping and lighthouse life in the region. McGulpin Point Lighthouse: Built in 1869, it guided ships through the Straits of Mackinac until 1906. Designed in a distinctive brick style shared by several Great Lakes lighthouses, it was restored and reopened to the public in 2009. Today, visitors can explore the lighthouse, walk scenic trails, and enjoy panoramic views of the Mackinac Bridge. ☑️ SUBSCRIBE TO FOLLOW ALONG ON OUR VAN LIFE ADVENTURES ► https://bit.ly/2XvSth7 Instagram: / steveandaudra Facebook: / steveandaudra ☑️ BECOME A PATRON ► / steveandaudra Help put gas in our tank and get a few extra perks including our undying love and devotion! 🙂 ☑️ SHOP OUR AMAZON STORE ► https://www.amazon.com/shop/steveaudra Use this link to learn about our favorite products or support our channel when you shop on Amazon!
