When you see a patient with large, visible veins, you might think to yourself, "This is going to be an easy stick!" However, you have to watch for rolling veins on patients like this. To stabilize the vein before starting an IV, have the patient make a tight fist, and then gently pull down on the skin below the IV insertion point. That will help stabilize it so much more.
