This Christmas message takes us deep into Isaiah 11, where we discover that the peace we desperately long for isn't found in perfect circumstances, ideal relationships, or the right political leaders—it's found in the Prince of Peace Himself. We're reminded that our natural tendency is to search for messianic figures who can fix our problems, whether in politics, relationships, or life circumstances. But Isaiah points us to the only true Messiah, describing Him as a shoot from Jesse's stump—new life emerging from what looks dead. This Messiah would be filled with God's Spirit, rule with perfect justice, and bring such radical peace that natural enemies would lie down together. The profound truth here is that Jesus didn't come to give us temporary peace through better circumstances; He came to address the real problem—our war with God. Until we have peace with our Creator, we'll never find lasting peace anywhere else. The Christmas story matters because of Easter; Jesus absorbed God's wrath for our rebellion and proved through resurrection that the payment was made. Once we experience peace with God through faith in Christ, it transforms how we see everything else, enabling us to become peacemakers in a divided world. Like the poet who wrote 'I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day' during his darkest hour, we can cling to the truth that God has not abandoned us—the Prince of Peace has come, and that peace is available today.
