Project Vigilant: the new way we are targeting offenders on nights out

On a recent Friday night in Weston-super-Mare, plain clothed police officers saw a young man acting sexually inappropriate towards a girl, alerting uniformed officers who stepped in to check on her safety. Although the girl initially said she was his girlfriend and everything was consensual, she later approached our officers for help, revealing they had only just met that night and expressing concerns about his behaviour and her safety. Thanks to Project Vigilant, our proactive approach to making our towns and cities safer for women and girls, we were able to intervene and ensure the girl got home safe and the male was identified. Using plain clothed and uniformed officers around pubs, clubs and bars, we aim to stop threatening behaviour before it escalates.
