What does a goldenberry taste like? I will do a taste test as well. What is a golden berry? The Physalis peruviana, aka, Cape gooseberry, goldenberry, ground cherry, and physalis is an orangish berry that grows inside a papery like a calyx. It is a member of the nightshade family and is related to the tomatillo. Where does a golden berry grow? They are native to the mountain slopes of Peru and Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, and Brazil, but are cultivated all around the world in places like Australia, China, India, Malaysia, England, New Zealand, and the Philippines. What can I do with it? They can be eaten fresh as long as they are ripe (no green on them) or made into fruit-based sauces, compotes, pies, jellies, jams, preserves, puddings, ice cream, etc. They can also be dried. How do golden berries taste? They are slightly tart slightly sweet, and taste kind of like a mix between a pineapple, mango, and a tomato. They are really good!
