Lidten on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/track/7HIPRf... Before Chris moved to Spain (where he lived for a short while before moving to Mexico where he died), he came back to New Zealand and we were spending time together. He said to me rather casually, “oh, by the way, I wrote a song. Do you want to hear it?” What ensued had me in disbelief. The thing is…Chris was so good at so many things; that was normal for him. But he’d only written a handful of songs in his life, and the songwriting displayed in front of me as I sat there and listened to him play was as good as that of any professional songwriter I know. There was imagery, a recurring theme, a golden thread, delicate metaphor, honesty, melodic development, heartache, and the thing that goes beyond all those things and just sets your spirit on fire. Naturally, my response was “bro! We need to record that!” And so we did. I produced it and I sang backing vocals and played electric guitar on it while Chris played the acoustic. We also recruited Maddy Bell for backing vocals, which she did so sweetly. Chris told me later that it was “a dream come true” to have a song produced by me. I had no idea that was a dream of his, otherwise I could have made it happen earlier! But, that being said, the timing couldn’t have been better on this. Both Maddy and I were in NZ and both so happy to be on his team. He also went on to say that to have both Maddy and me on his song was even better than his dream come true. He was so proud of this piece of music, and the experience truly meant the world to him. So now we have released it to the world! 🕊️ You can listen on the music platforms. Sootidy link at the top of this description Chris also created the artwork before he died (just another thing he was ludicrously good at). 💜 I’m sorry that you never got to be around for the day this is released, brother. But please know that you have given the world a beautiful gift in this song. It’s perfect. Just like you. 🤍 Video filmed by Whatisjusy. 🎥 Music mixed by Thomas Oliver.
