Originally, Fortnite was announced in 2011 as a cooperative survival game called Fortnite: Save the World, which officially released in 2017. The game took a massive turn when Fortnite Battle Royale was launched later in 2017, inspired by the battle royale genre. This free-to-play mode quickly became a global phenomenon. At first, Fortnite Battle Royale had no clear story, but starting from Chapter 1, Epic Games slowly introduced lore through live events, map changes, and seasons. Chapter 1 (Seasons 1–10) focused on mystery and world-building. Early seasons were simple, but things escalated with the appearance of the Meteor, which crashed in Season 4 and introduced The Visitor, part of a group known later as The Seven. Seasons 5 and 6 explored rifts in reality, time travel, and dark forces like Kevin the Cube. In Season 7, the Ice King brought a frozen invasion, while Season 8 introduced pirates and volcanoes. The chapter ended in Season X, where reality became unstable, leading to The Black Hole event, which destroyed the island completely. Chapter 2 (Seasons 1–8) introduced a new island and a clearer storyline. The main conflict became The Imagined Order (IO), a secret organization controlling the island through the Zero Point, a powerful energy source that keeps realities together. The Seven opposed IO. Over the seasons, players saw spy wars, floods, Marvel crossovers, alien invasions, and the corruption of the Zero Point. Chapter 2 ended with The Cube Queen attempting to destroy reality, but the island flipped, revealing a new one. Chapter 3 (Seasons 1–4) was more action-heavy and cinematic. The Seven actively fought IO, tanks and war zones appeared, and the Zero Point remained central. Eventually, The Herald corrupted the island with chrome, leading to another reality collapse. The island was destroyed again, but fragments of past realities were preserved. Chapter 4 (Seasons 1–4) introduced a completely new island formed from those fragments. The story became more experimental, focusing on alternate realities, time loops, futuristic cities, heists, and the return of older themes. The chapter emphasized that Fortnite is a multiverse, where different timelines and characters collide. Chapter 5 (current direction) shifted Fortnite toward a broader platform, not just a battle royale. The story became lighter, while Fortnite expanded into LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival, turning the game into a connected universe rather than a single narrative-driven experience. Today, Fortnite is no longer just a game. It is a metaverse-style platform, combining storytelling, live events, concerts, collaborations, and multiple game modes. What started as a simple survival concept evolved into one of the most influential games in history, constantly changing its story, mechanics, and identity while keeping the Zero Point and the multiverse at the heart of everything
