As a winter storm is expected to move into the region this weekend, emergency preparedness experts say Virginians should get ready now. "Shelf stable food, you know, canned foods that you can pull the top off of, and things that you can eat ready made," said Virginia Red Cross spokesperson Christy Carneal. Water is also a critical part of storm preparation. Carneal said she recommends planning for several days without power, especially with the possibility of ice increasing the risk of outages. "You need a gallon of water per person for at least three days, a gallon of water per person per day for at least three days. Don't forget your pets in that because this storm does bring the potential of ice, which increases the likelihood of power outages," Carneal said. https://www.wric.com/news/local-news/...
