Video text: Tube feeding is a method used to ensure that an animal is receiving adequate nutrition and is properly hydrated. To begin unscrew the cap of the bung in the tube. Make sure you pinch the tube to ensure the air does not enter the stomach, which can disrupt feeding. Begin the process by hydrating your pet by slowly injecting fluids into the feeding tube. This also clears the tubes of any obstructions. Your vet will recommend the total volume of fluids to administer to your terrapin or tortoise, depending on its size. When changing syringe, from fluids to food, make sure you pinch the tube. Depending on the species of terrapin or tortoise your vet will recommend the appropriate food for tube feeding.
