Gaia goes on - Titanic theme parody Disclaimer: This song was re-worded, arranged, played, sung, recorded and filmed by a losely organised group of space, music and film enthusiasts during their lunchbreaks, weekends and evenings, with no budget and no agenda. The crew behind this project wishes nothing more than to send all the love to the lonely hat out in the void of space and all the people who worked diligently and brilliantly for decades to make this mission come true. This project is just for fun and your viewing pleasure, promotes noone and nothing, and is in no way affiliated with any international non-profit organisations some of us may view as their customers or employers in our professional lives. No spacecraft were harmed during the filming. One was harmed today, but it's OK... Please, consult your astronomer if Gaia data is right for you. Side-effects may include deep sadness, earworm and incessant humming. Gaia indeed doesn't end here, the mission does go on: The vast amount of collected science data will be used for many years to come. And the innovation brought by Gaia is with us to stay. Terms and abbreviations: GAIA, now Gaia, is a name of an astronomical mission of the European Space Agency, which has created the most detailed charts of our galaxy so far. Read more here: https://www.esa.int/Science_Explorati... ESOC is the European Space Operations Centre, from where Gaia was controlled up until the very last day. Read more here: https://esoc.esa.int/ L2 is Lagrange Point 2, a point of equilibrium between the centrifugal and gravitational forces of the Sun-Earth system. Gaia has spent her lifetime orbiting L2 on a 3D Lissajous pattern orbit. Learn more here: • Gaia: launch to orbit Downlink is the download of data (called telemetry/TM) from spacecraft to Earth. Passivation is an event when spacecraft is depleted of all stored propellant and energy in order to prevent its explosive decomposition in the future, preventing the creation of a cloud of space debris. Learn more here: • Space Debris Gaia's passivation date is 2025-03-27. DDOR is Delta Differential One-way Ranging, read more here: https://www.esa.int/Enabling_Support/... DCR and MCR are abbreviations for the Dedicated Control Room and Main Control Room in ESOC, the former being used for routine operations and the latter for critical operations, such as spacecraft passivation. The change from DCR to MCR in lyrics signifies that the time has come. Credits: Special thanks to the GAIA team. L’Hymne à la Mer est dédié à Joséphine Ferré.
