SafeWork SA will audit mines and quarries following callouts and on a proactive basis from September 2025. The audits will measure compliance against Chapter 8A of the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2012. Non-compliance matters will be managed via statutory notices. With the new CSS regulations in effect, SafeWork SA’s Construction team will also prioritise CSS-related notifications, requiring worksite visits and audits of safe work method statements (SWMS). Exposure to crystalline silica in mining operations and construction presents a serious health hazard. Tighter controls to protect people working with crystalline silica substances (CSS) came into effect from 1 September 2024. Presented by Education and Engagement Advisor Katie Geszner, Construction Team Leader Stuart Robb, Mining Team Leader Michael Paterson and Occupational Hygienist Ryan Jurkowski, this informative webinar explores the new regulations and explains requirements for businesses, while getting specific advice for the mining, quarrying and construction industries on how to comply.
