As I haven't previously uploaded a Gilbert and Sullivan opera, I thought I might attack the 1927 'Trial by Jury.' Indeed, as Gilbert would have said, that seemed a reasonable proposition. It was actually more difficult than I had expected. Problems with pitch variations raised their ugly head. It took a while to solve these, and then I found that my software was duplicating certain parts of the recording and deleting others. I finally got everything assembled and had to listen through again just to ensure that nothing was missing! The recording was made in Studio C in the Small Queen's Hall, London, on 20 and 29 September 1927, the cast being as follows: The Learned Judge Leo Sheffield The Plaintiff Winifred Lawson The Defendant Derek Oldham Counsel for the Plaintiff Arthur Hosking Usher George Baker Foreman of the Jury T. Penry Hughes The orchestra was conducted by Harry Norris. I made this transfer from Australian laminated pressings of HMV D 1469/72.
