The name Panchvati translates to "five banyan trees," as the area is said to have been home to five ancient banyan trees. Many of the religious sites and temples in Panchvati are connected to events from the Ramayana. According to legend, Panchvati is where Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and his brother Lakshmana stayed during their 14-year exile (vanvas). Some of the key attractions include: Kapaleshwar Temple: This is another important temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located near Ramkund. Ramkund: A sacred bathing ghat on the Godavari River, where Lord Rama is believed to have performed his father's last rites. It is a major site for rituals and ceremonies. Kalaram Temple: This famous temple is dedicated to Lord Rama and is an important pilgrimage site. It is called "Kalaram" because the idol of Lord Rama inside is black (kala) in color. Sita Gufa: A small cave where it is believed that Sita lived during her stay in Panchvati. This is also where Ravana is said to have abducted her. Godavari River: The river is considered holy and plays a key role in the religious significance of Panchvati. It is one of the few places where people perform religious rites, including the ashes immersion ceremony.
