It's so important to recognize the contributions of Filipinos in the US during Filipino American History Month (FAHM) and within our community. Let's celebrate and learn together! I share a moment in 2017 that made me feel a deep sense of hiya (shame). I also talk about the difference between Filipino culture/heritage and Filipino American history. Filipino American History Month is an invitation to learn when Filipinos first arrived in the U.S., how Fil-Am communities grew, and the contributions and struggles along the way. From growing up in New York to my years living in Iowa, learning about FANHS chapters across the country (including the NY Metro Area and the Midwest!) makes me realize just how much there still is to discover.
