Epilepsy Queensland has launched a suite of new resources for Seniors living with epilepsy, their families, carers, and health and care professionals that work alongside them to coincide with Queensland Seniors Week. Thank you to the Brisbane City Council for funding this project through the Access and Inclusion Program. We would like to extend a big thank you to special guests, Minister for Communities and Minister for Disability Services and Seniors, the Honorable Coralee O'Rourke and neurologist Associate Professor Cecilie Lander who gave a fantastic presentation about epilepsy in later life. We would also like to recognise the hard work and contributions that went into delivering this valuable project and resources including Project Co-ordinator Janet Pond and the forum participants who helped co-design the resources including Carol Barrett who shared her experience today. These resources are age-appropriate, factual, engaging and informative, and have been developed to improve the ability of seniors with epilepsy to access and be included in the community. “Making the most of later life with epilepsy” is a 3-part, self-paced workbook. The book provides learning opportunities to build the capacity of older people with epilepsy and their family and carers to solve problems, communicate and build relationships, seek support, and potentially alter their approach and/or circumstances towards improving quality of life. There is also a health practitioner’s resource, “Could it be epilepsy? A brief guide for health professionals” and flyer available.
