Torsional irregularity is one such horizontal irregularity which has to be looked upon while designing a structure. Before explaining the term torsional irregularity, one has to be acquainted with the terms drift, story drift, eccentricity and torsion. Recent codes have defined torsional irregularity as the condition where the maximum story drift, including accidental torsion, at one end of the structure transverse to an axis is more than 1.2 times the average of the story drifts at the two ends of the structure.
