If you've ever seen a fuzzy white bug scurrying across a plant, it's likely you've seen the larva of an insect called a Green Lacewing. The larvae of some Green Lacewing species pile debris on their backs, and those larvae are nicknamed "Trash Bugs” or “Junk Bugs”. Their bodies have bristles that allow them to attach plant material as well as the remains of insects. The "trash" acts as camouflage against both predators and prey. Trash Bugs are voracious hunters of common garden pests like aphids, so they're considered beneficial insects (another nickname of theirs is "Aphid Lion"). In this macro video you'll get an extremely up close look at their massive jaws, their alligator-like body, and how they cover themselves with debris. Watch Trash Bugs get a tasty drink, see one pick up a surprising hitchhiker, and witness one larva take another larva's trash.
