The Lineup is a 1958 American film noir version of the police procedural series of the same title that ran on CBS radio from 1950 until 1953, and on CBS television from 1954 until 1960. Plot: The Lineup is a tense crime thriller directed by Don Siegel. The story begins with a drug-smuggling operation in San Francisco. Narcotics are hidden inside souvenirs and shipped from Asia, with unsuspecting travelers unknowingly carrying them. When customs agents intercept one of these shipments, a ruthless hitman named Dancer and his partner Julian are sent by their boss—an unseen crime lord known only as “The Man”—to recover the missing heroin. As Dancer and Julian move through the city, they leave a trail of violence and murder, determined to retrieve the drugs at any cost. Their path eventually crosses with innocent victims, including a little girl who unknowingly possesses a doll stuffed with narcotics. The tension builds to a deadly climax at San Francisco’s iconic Sutro Baths and the Embarcadero Freeway, where loyalty, greed, and survival collide.
