Recreational camping is a long-standing tradition that seems to be more popular now than ever before. Camping these days has become specialized; very specific to the activities involved. As we camp in our newfangled ways it's fun to think back to when camping was simpler…how the old timers did it. Or, if you're old enough, how you did it as a kid? I remember camping back in the '70s & ‘80s. But I wanted to go back a bit further, closer to the ‘50s or the ‘60s. Back when a light-weight tent was still 30 pounds and a fully loaded backpack weighed at least 70 pounds. Only some of my gear and my truck were period correct…just enough to get a taste for how much fun this could be. I'll keep collecting vintage gear to do this again. Hopefully, next time with my family. I think they would have a blast doing all the traditional camping activities using vintage gear, pretending to be in a different time within wilderness that remains timeless hopefully forever.
