Innovative intraperitoneal therapy strategies for peritoneal metastases
Wim Ceelen, MD, PhD, Ghent University Hospital, Ghent, Belgium, discusses novel methods to deliver intraperitoneal therapy, including immune therapy and immune-modulating therapies to alter the immune microenvironment of peritoneal metastasis in colorectal cancer. Prof. Ceelen highlights the potential of combining intraperitoneal immune modulators with systemic immune checkpoint inhibitors and the use of radionuclide therapy, such as radium-223, for intraperitoneal delivery in ovarian cancer, as well as physical methods like electrical currents to enhance drug delivery. This interview took place at the 44th Congress of the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO 44) in Gothenburg, Sweden.
