Purusha Suktam(Rigveda) | पुरुष सूक्तम् (ऋग्वेद) | Challakere Brothers

Rigveda Purusha Suktam (Rigveda 10th Mandala, 90th Suktam) is a set of hymns depicting the cosmic relation of Purusha (the ultimate state - not to be read as a male being) and the creation. It talks about the entire cosmic creation from the Purusha and how stages of such a creation manifests multifold into other beings. At first it talks about Purusha who is omnipresent and extends transcendentally beyond the known and unknown worlds. Purusha forms the basis of creation, he is omnipresent and omnipotent, the Virat roopa (enormous form) and Vishwa roopa of the Purusha himself,Trayee vedas (Rig, Yajuh, Saama), and other living beings (both quadruples and bipeds). Such a Purusha is seen as the embodiment of Brahmana (intellect or Gnaana) as the head, Kshatriya (Strength or Baahubala) as arms, Vaishya (Logic or Vyavahaara) as thighs, Shudra (Craftsmanship) as limbs. Purusha Suktam thus proposes Chaaturvarnas (not the caste system) as the sheer embodiment of a central cosmic strength and gives equal importance to every varna with varied capabilities. It also further embodies Purusha with the sun, the moon and Antariskha (the sky). Purusha Suktam hence provides a picturesque view of the Parabrahma in the form that we seekers can understand. It thus motivates us to seek ultimate Gnana and eventually attain the state of self-realisation and realising that we are the part of such an ultimate cosmic state.
