100 Years of Leica Black Paint. Which is My Favourite Black Paint Model?

In celebration of Leica's 100 Year Centennial of manufacturing cameras and lenses, I thought I would do a series of videos featuring Leica history. For this video I talk about 100 years of Leica black paint. No other camera manufacturer has leaned into the use of a brass top plate and a naturally fading black paint finish like Leica. In the past, pretty much every camera manufacturer had brass top plated black paint cameras, including Nikon, Canon, Minolta, Pentax, Contax, Rollei, Voigtlander, etc. However, over the years, the coating technology improved, and other manufacturers, especially the Japanese moved to more exotic metals such as titanium and magnesium alloy. These are more functional improvements for sure, but I understand why the Leica continues to use 'older' retro technology in the M line-up. The Leica Q and SL series use modern materials and finishes like every other manufacturer, because these are purely modern cameras. But the Leica M is very special. Like a Rolex watch or a manual transmission Porsche, people don't buy a Leica M purely for practicality. In this video we look at five Leica black paint cameras: iA, M3, M6 LHSA, M9-P, and the M10-R. I was trying to get an M7 a la carte BP and the new M11 Glossy Black for this video, but it would have taken too long.
