Sage Vashishtha, Guru of the Prince Ram and his brothers, believed in destiny. On the contrary, Vishwamitra believed in "Purushartha" or the self effort. On the basis of Purushartha Vishwamitra became from Kshatriya to Brahman in the same lifetime. Once Vishwamitra, when he was a King, on one of his exploits took rest with his soldiers in the hermitage of sage Vashishtha. The army was well fed and taken care of by the sage Vashishtha. The king expressed his surprise to the sage as to how he was able to take care of all of them. Vashishtha told him that this feast has been provided by calf Nandini, daughter of Indra's wish fulfilling cow Kamadhenu, which was gifted to him by Indra. King expressed his desire to the sage for obtaining Nandini from him. Vashishtha politely refused. To this, King ensued a war on hermitage to take away the cow but everytime he tried, Sage Vashishtha fend it off. This led to the great enmity between them. This event led the King to become a great Sage Vishwamitra, how did this transformation take place? Watch this beautiful clip of Ram Katha narrated by Swami Mukundananda.
