This video was produced in 1991 and released and distributed for use as an aid to eye care and safety in the workplace. A copy, in VHS form, was kept at Qantas Airways' Melbourne aircraft maintenance facility medical centre. It was used to create this digitised version. As is explained in the video, we don't always apply the principles of how we work within industrial health and safety guidelines at our workplaces to our private, domestic life. Hence, home-based injuries form a significant percentage of medical presentations at hospital outpatients' wards. The analogy between the speeds, and consequences, of a bullet discharged from a police officer's pistol and a projectile flung out from a lawnmower is noteworthy. In a workbench area located in the hangar hung numerous A3 sized eye safety posters. One such poster depicted a pair of fingers feeling some braille script. The caption read: 'Felt any good books lately, or was there no need?' The narrator is Peter Couchman: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_C... The credits acknowledge the many entities which contributed to the making of the video. Please bear in mind: Principles and practices in applying first aid can change over time and so this video should not be relied upon for definitive or up-to-date guidance. It is offered purely for interest. Principles of working safely and compliantly in workplaces and worksites are constantly evolving. Please view depicted scenes of industry and medical procedures through the lens of the period and era in which the video was created.
