how to fix THAT bridgerton scene (so we can actually root for simon and daphne)

i know i just uploaded a vid yesterday, but i can't get this show out of my head 💀 i want to root for simon & daphne SO FREAKING BADLY. but that scene almost ruined the entire show for me, so here’s how i’d fix it. also, spoilers for bridgerton (obviously, lol) i absolutely loved simon. i relate so hard to this brooding gentleman with his trunkful of childhood trauma refusing to live his life purely because someone he despised told him to do something. hi, did you mean my ENTIRE life?! but his character was NOT done justice. that bridgerton rape scene was, imo, completely unneeded for his growth. that same character development could've been brought about WITHOUT daphne violating him - and, if you still want to explore that scene, at least explore it all the way. recognize that simon would be hurting from that moment! don't let the narrative punish him for his anguish over it & his distrust! give daphne a chance to grow & develop, too, by her actually realizing the gravity of what she did. i just, there were SO MANY WAYS they could've reached the same end scene with simon and daphne together with child, without completely throwing a wrench into what they spent five and a half amazing episodes building. and, honestly, a lot of these ways would've provided MORE character growth without sacrificing any of the drama to do it. as it is now, the narrative reduces simon's pain & doesn't give daphne the full range of growth she could've had from the moment. and mainly, i just can't believe they made a conscious choice to change the scene from the book, only to end up keeping it much the same anyways. i just want to root for them. i just want to root for their happiness. i just want to root for their FAMILY. & now our only option is to headcanon the pain away or pretend they explored the repercussions of that act fully. i’m probably still going to watch season 2, because i want to see if they do their relationship justice.
