The iconic comedian and actor, Moses Lim, has passed away at the age of 75. If you grew up in Singapore in the 90s, you know Moses Lim. He was a huge part of so many childhoods. Most people will remember him as Tan Ah Teck, the patriarch from the beloved sitcom "Under One Roof". But he was so much more than just that one role. The news broke earlier today on his Facebook page, and the outpouring of love has been incredible. The post announcing his death described him as someone who "brought endless laughter and joy to generations of Singaporeans" and that he "has taken his final bow, leaving behind a legacy that sparkles as brightly as his unforgettable smile". So true. Moses Lim was a true pioneer. He started out on the Channel 8 variety show "Comedy Nite" in the 90s. He brought his comedic talents to English-language television with "Under One Roof," which really broke ground back then. It was Singapore's first English sitcom, and it was a massive hit. But his talents didn't stop there. Moses had a deep passion for food. He became a well-known food critic and even founded the Moses Lim Gourmet Club, organizing gourmet tours. The man truly enjoyed life! Tributes have been pouring in from fellow celebrities. Nicholas Lee, who played his son Ronnie in "Under One Roof," called Moses his "second dad" and said he'll "treasure always and fondly the many moments we shared". Mark Lee, who worked with Moses on "Comedy Nite," remembered him as energetic and positive. Jack Neo, who worked with him, stated that Moses left them too early and was in shock. Zhu Houren recalled meeting Moses for tea just two weeks ago. They spoke of Moses potentially returning to the screen. Moses had faced some health challenges in recent years. He underwent heart surgery in 2018. In 2022, he revealed that he'd been diagnosed with a slow pulse rate but had declined to get a pacemaker. He explained that due to his age, he preferred to avoid further surgery, especially after the complications he faced with his heart surgery. However, his pulse and heartbeat were normal in a scan six months later, after paying more attention to his diet. Moses Lim leaves behind his wife Monica, his daughters Grace and Angela, and four granddaughters. His wake will begin on February 13th, and the funeral procession will be on February 15th. He will be remembered for his incredible contributions to Singaporean comedy, his warm personality, and of course, for giving us the unforgettable Tan Ah Teck. He truly brought joy to so many people.
