You mentioned that you're 8 weeks postpartum and you stopped bleeding after a vaginal delivery around 5 weeks, which is typical. Bleeding usually lasts for about 3 to 6 weeks. So the bleeding you're seeing could be the return of a period. It's possible, because some women start to have their first period as early as 7 weeks after their baby is born, but then other women don't have another period (or have their first) until after they stop breastfeeding, because breastfeeding and contraception will affect bleeding patterns after birth. So if you're on birth control, call your doctor, and they'll tell you what type of bleeding patterns to expect. Also call them if you bleed longer than 4 to 7 days or it starts to become heavy, because if it starts to pick back up and it's not slowing down, then your doctor may consider postpartum hemorrhage - that can be a risk even months after delivery. So your doctor will ask you more specific questions, take their knowledge of your circumstances into consideration, and decide if anything needs to be done about it. If you have more questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at / intermountainmoms , and recommend us to your friends and family too.
