Sky News host Paul Murray says listening to Alan Jones on the radio as a kid gave him “hope and focus,” providing him with the inspiration he needed to “work his backside off” and go on to make a name for himself in the media. “I learnt how things worked and didn’t work, I learnt what was right and what was wrong,” Mr Murray said. “I learnt how the world worked," he said. Mr Murray said “it’s all about passion, a love of the arts, a love of sport, a love of country”. Sky News host Alan Jones told Mr Murray he "was lucky" because he grew up in the bush where he and his family “had nothing” and spent many hours “listening to the wireless". “I learnt to love sport through my Dad, loved races because we listened to the races every Saturday afternoon … I learnt to love opera and through literature I learnt to love Bronte and Thackeray," he said. “I’m lucky in that I am not contrived in my appreciation of these thing. “It’s terribly important not to be contrived or synthetic”.
