Basketecture: Why Augmented Reality is the Future of Handcraft

Augmented Vision was a design build workshop run during the 2022 ACADIA conference at the Weissman School of Design, UPenn. Participants in the workshop used the HoloLens 2 to design and fabricate a large sculpture from hand bent aluminium strips. The structure consists of hundreds of unique parts and thousands of riveted connections and would be a nightmare to attempt to build using traditional drawings. Instead a virtual model helped show the exact shape of each part and where they should be joined, enabling the structure to be completed in just two days.
