The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad's Washington Branch Line was the first railroad linking Baltimore, Maryland and Washing, D.C. Conor Conneally, Manager of the B&O Ellicott City Station Museum, presents the history of the B&O Railroad's Washington Branch, the challenges and violence faced during its development, and the impact it had on the communities along its route. The Washington Branch, which Laurel Station was a part of, was opened for service on August 25, 1835 and recently celebrated its 190th anniversary. The Laurel Station was designed by E. Francis Baldwin, a well-known architect credited with designing several stations for the B&O. Laurel's station is the last extant example of the Baldwin-designed stations on the Washington Branch Line.
