Village Hotel Albert Court. Selegie House HDB Flats. I am taking the North East line on the way to Little India station. Today, I am visiting the Albert Street and Selegie area, specifically Village Hotel Albert Court and the few Selegie House HDB flats next to it. Village Hotel Albert Court is a landmark of Albert Street restored from pre-war shop houses. The Paranakan-styled hotel has enhanced the historical shop houses with modern luxury to endowed guests to enjoy convenience while indulging in its rich cultural guestrooms. This popular hotel lies along the famous street for food and beverage before the 1980s, Albert Street. It was named the Gourmand Street of Singapore in Cantonese. The many celebrated restaurants still exist around the hotel today. The well located hotel is located in the heart of Singapore and is easily accessible to the Business District and Shopping District, which offers convenience to both the business and leisure travellers. Albert Court Village is located in the Bugis area, a 3-minute walk from Rochor MRT Station. Made up of restored pre-war shop houses, this charming boutique hotel area is a place worth a visit to. The rooms at Village Hotel Albert Court feature a modern interior with elements of Straits Chinese decor. Each air-conditioned room is equipped with an in-room safe and a flat-screen TV. The private bathroom includes shower facilities. Within the hotel, intricate wood carvings and motif design pay homage to the Chetti—a distinct group of Indian Peranakans who once resided nearby. Located in the city and part of the Bras Basah Bugis precinct, Albert Court Village is within easy reach of Singapore's heritage and culture. Outside, many heritage buildings surround the hotel. Go shopping in a bazaar-style market flanked by pre-war shophouses at Bugis Village, or get your fortune told by feng shui masters, tarot readers and astro-palmists outside the historic Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple. Just across the street is Little India. Stroll in for a visual feast of spice shops, garland sellers and gold purveyors. Selegie House is a building complex that consist of one block of 20-storey flats and two blocks of 10-storey flats. These blocks used to be linked by four rows of 2-storey blocks which had since been demolished and replaced with link ways. At the time of its completion in 1963, the 60m tall 20-storey block was the tallest mixed development building in Singapore comprising both residential units and commercial shops. The complex’s completion represented HDB's first foray into the construction of high-rise housing to accommodate a large number of residents in modern housing conditions during the post-war period.
