http://www.advantage-chatuge-realty.com Lake Chatuge Real Estate - Hayesville Realty Hello. My name is Ed Reams, and I'm the Owner/ Broker of Advantage Chatuge Realty here in Hayesville, North Carolina. My staff and I would like to welcome you to the beautiful mountain/ lakes region of western North Carolina and northeast Georgia. The crown jewel of our area is Lake Chatuge, which you see behind me. It was named for an century Cherokee village, which was once 18th situated near this site. It's a very large lake, with 132 miles of shoreline -- and it covers more than 7,000 acres. Half the lake is located here in Clay County, North Carolina, and the other half is located just across the state line in Towns County, Georgia. Chatuge is a man-made lake, and was built in 1942 by the TVA... the Tennessee Valley Authority. When the lake is at full pool during Spring and Summer, its elevation is approximately 1,928 feet above sea level. As the off-season approaches, the TVA releases a small amount of water and the lake level drops a bit -- but is then brought back up to full pool the following Spring. There are several U.S. Wildlife Areas situated on the lake, all of which are available for public use. These Wildlife Areas have miles of hiking and biking trails, boat launches, grills, picnic tables and beaches. Lake Chatuge is ideal for boating, swimming, water skiing and fishing, and is conveniently located within two hours' driving time of Atlanta, Chattanooga and Asheville. If you enjoy spending part of your outdoor time on the links, you'll be pleased to learn that there are three golf courses located within a 10 minute drive of Lake Chatuge. All of the courses are open to the public, and they're all beautiful. Personally, I'm not much of a golfer, but I have friends who are -- and many of them insist that our local courses here are among the most beautiful they've ever played. Hayesville is the county seat of Clay County, which was named for Henry Clay, the 18th century Congressman, Senator and Secretary of State under John Quincy Adams. Half the county consists of pristine lands managed by the U.S. Forest Service. These include a number of National Wildlife Recreational Areas. These are great spots to get together with family and friends. There are hiking trails galore, picnic tables and grills, and camping sites. Some even offer miles of horseback riding trails... creek-fed swimming holes, and large, natural waterfalls. If outdoor activities aren't your cup of tea, there are plenty of indoor activities available to you. For example, the John C. Campbell Folk School is an internationally renowned institution where you can take courses on everything from photography to dancing to painting to blacksmithing. Or, you can attend a presentation by one of our local theater ensembles, dance troupes, or musical groups. Or, you can dine at one of our local restaurants which -- personal opinion -- rival anything which was available to us in metro Atlanta when we lived there. The quality of life here in the mountain/lakes region is wonderful, and the lake is an ever- changing palette of colors. The daytime hours are filled with intense blues and greens. As we approach evening, the reds, oranges and magenta's appear. And sometimes in the early morning, the lake sleeps beneath a layer of clouds. Throw in a full moon for good measure, and there's nothing quite like it. I hope you've enjoyed this brief overview. If you are considering purchasing property here, either as a vacation home, a primary residence, or as an investment, I hope you'll call me or one of our agents; it would be our privilege to assist you in your property search.
