Over the summer, superstar violinist Hilary Hahn visited our studio and gave an unforgettable masterclass. On this String Tip Tuesday, we're sharing some of her amazing insights and suggestions! 1. You can do everything, but not all at once. Identify three priorities every day and then focus on practicing those specific things—even if you only get to the first two of them! Choose new priorities every day. (This is a great way to prepare for a recital, too, emphasizing different aspects of your playing each day.) 2. Align your goals with the lifestyle you want. Learn about the field that interests you so you can pick the version of it that fits you best. Where will you find like-minded colleagues? Where can you apply your strengths? Find that path and get on it! 3. The lessons you take from music are bigger than your instrument. You don't have to be a performer or a music major to be a musician. Knowing how to play is what makes you a musician! Ultimately, music is a wonderful way to connect with others, inform your other pursuits, and help you bring your unique perspective to everything you do.
