You have to avoid blundering along the way, i.e., gambling, drinking, debt, living beyond your paycheck, etc. This means, work or study and get a STEADY paycheck as early as the law provides in your country. Another key phrase you will hear is to get your pieces out into the playing field as quickly as you can. In life, you utilize your resources early, in order to better your position in life. Another key phrase you will hear is to DEVELOP A PLAN. In life, this is key. There are no substitutes for a good plan and even a poor plan is better than no plan at all in many cases. Just don't react to life, make plans and put them into action. Another key phrase you will hear is that sometimes you need TO ACT QUICKLY, no waiting around, In life, you get busy living or you get busy dying, seldom is there time to waste, this is true in Chess as well. Another key phrase is to GO AFTER THE KING. In real life, this a metaphor for achieving your personal goals. In the end, the only thing that matters is winning the game. In your world, what is your "win" for the game? Is it a car? Is it a big house? Is it early retirement? Is it a lot of money to buy products? My win was to not have to work and to retire and slow travel the world and see new places. For you, it will be different or maybe similar, who knows, but the point is to not lose sight of this goal of winning. In Chess it is VERY easy to lose sight of what you were trying to get done.
