In Epistle to the Ephesians 1:3–14, the apostle Paul opens with a majestic blessing that exalts the work of God in Christ. This passage is one continuous sentence in the Greek text, unfolding the riches of redemption and the eternal purpose of God. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” Here we see the source of every blessing — the Father — and the sphere in which they are given: “in Christ.” The repeated phrase “in whom” reveals the believer’s union with the Son, through whom redemption, forgiveness of sins, and an inheritance are obtained according to the riches of His grace.
