Take Control of Your Low end - Sub Bass Management in Logic Pro

By popular request, this week I’m tackling the low-end rumble implications of working with sub bass. Before we go any further, please do watch this episode on the best pair of speakers you can but be ready with your volume dial as I’m going to play some potentially loud, very low frequencies. With that warning out of the way, I’m going to explain why sub bass can be pesky; it’s low and murky but it has enormous amounts of energy which makes it hard to mix (particularly if you’re working on smaller speakers). Additionally, it pushes Output-channel Compressors in ways which aren’t always beneficial to your mixes. I’ll also show you some ways to give purer sub basses more presence; either by adding Harmonics in a synth (if possible - it isn’t always) or via saturation or distortion plug-ins. I’ll try to explain why your speakers and the environment in which you work will have big implications for sub levels too.
