Man celebrating wearing Russian national hockey jersey STORYLINE: Russians cheered and celebrated in a Moscow bar on Sunday night as they watched their compatriot Alex Ovechkin break Wayne Gretzky's all-time NHL goals record which for a long time seemed unbeatable. Ovechkin racked up his 895th regular season goal during the Washington Capitals 4-1 loss to the New York Islanders. Dozens of fans who had gathered inside the Moscow bar to watch the game erupted when their idol scored during the second period. Some started chants of Ovechkin's name, while others took shots. "We are very proud that the Russian player became the best in the world in the league played in the US," said Roman Gunkin. Ovechkin, who has played his entire 20-year NHL career with the Capitals, entered the season 42 short of Gretzky's record. The 39-year-old was on pace to get to 894 and beyond in February before breaking his left leg in a shin-on-shin collision in November, which caused him to miss 16 games.
