Trooper's Report: On September 11, 2025, at approximately 0950 hours, dispatch advised that the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office and Roland Police Department were in pursuit of a suspect vehicle eastbound on Interstate 40 towards Arkansas. The pursuit was related to a counterfeit money investigation. Dispatch reported that the suspect was driving a newer model Jeep Wrangler. I was westbound on Interstate 40 near the 2-mile marker when notified of the pursuit. I positioned my patrol unit in the median at the state line and began retrieving my spike strips. Before I could deploy them, the pursuit passed my location eastbound. I returned to my vehicle and caught up with the pursuit near the 2-mile marker. I notified dispatch that I had taken the lead and provided the displayed license plate number (GA Tag: CXW 9430). The suspect continued eastbound, operating recklessly at speeds between 95–120 MPH, passing vehicles in the left lane. Trp. Eric Hoegh joined the pursuit at the 7-mile marker. The suspect exited onto Interstate 540 southbound at Exit 7. At the 2-mile marker on I-540, I attempted a tactical vehicle intervention (TVI) during a break in traffic. The suspect regained control and continued southbound, passing vehicles in the right lane at a high rate of speed. At the 3-mile marker, Trp. Ron Elkins attempted to deploy spikes but was unsuccessful. After crossing the Arkansas River Bridge, I performed a second TVI in a traffic clearing. This maneuver caused the Jeep to spin counterclockwise and strike the concrete median barrier. The Jeep then rotated clockwise, rolled onto its driver’s side, slid across both southbound lanes, struck the guardrail on the right shoulder, and came to rest in the right lane facing northeast on its driver’s side. I observed the driver moving inside the vehicle and grabbing objects. I gave verbal commands for him to exit with his hands visible. The suspect crawled out through the passenger side and onto the vehicle’s exterior. I pulled him to the ground and ordered him to place his hands behind his back. The suspect complied with his right hand but refused to move his left hand, keeping it near his waistband. Fearing he may access a weapon, I applied a drive-stun with my Conducted Electrical Weapon (CEW) to the center of his back. The suspect then placed his left hand behind his back and was secured in handcuffs without further incident. I requested EMS and a wrecker (John’s Wrecker) to respond. The suspect was placed in my patrol unit pending medical evaluation. Fort Smith EMS and the wrecker arrived on scene. The Jeep was removed from the interstate for inventory, and EMS transported the suspect to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith for treatment of minor injuries. The suspect was identified as Maurice A. Gonzalez from Georgia. After medical clearance, the suspect was transported to the Crawford County Justice Center and booked without incident. Trp. Hoegh followed the wrecker to Arkansas State Police Troop H to inventory the jeep in a safe location. During the inventory search, a meth pipe, a small amount of meth, scales, marijuana, and a marijuana grinder were located. All evidence was seized and entered into the Troop H evidence locker. Mr. Gonzalez was charged with: 27-22-104: NO LIABILITY INSURANCE, 27-14-701: OWNER FAIL TO REGISTER VEHICLE - EXPIRED TAGS, 27-16-303: DRIVING ON SUSPENDED LICENSE, 5-64-419(b)(1)(A): POSSESS CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE SCHED I,II METH COCAINE 2G, 5-64-443(a)(2): POSSESS DRUG PARAPHERNALIA METH COCAINE, 27- 50-308(b)(1)(B) 1ST: RECKLESS DRIVING - 1ST, 5-54-125(d)(3) 2023: FLEEING - FELONY - VEHICLE OR CONVEYANCE - SUBSTANTIAL DANGER OF DEATH, 5-54-103(a): RESISTING ARREST, 5-64-419(b)(5)(A): POSSESS CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE SCHED VI 4 OZ AND 5-64-443(a)(1): POSSESS DRUG PARAPHERNALIA
