UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's hockey team started the game well, but took a 3-1 loss at the hands of the #7-ranked Nazareth Golden Flyers. Nazareth applied pressure all day, outshooting the Pioneers 40-17 and controlling the flow of the game. Brooklyn Higgins (Gilbert, AZ/) scored the lone goal for the Pioneers, notching her first career collegiate goal three minutes into the contest off a rebound from Dylan DiGrazia (Scottsdale, AZ/) that gave her the second assist of her season. Samantha Dobrzynski (Garnet Valley, PA/) added the team-leading eighth assist of her freshman season on the score. Alex Venning (Courtice, ON/) got the start between the pipes, recording 37 saves and playing valiantly in the losing effort. Five separate skaters for the Golden Flyers recorded points in the victory, with Logan Marchese and Brooke Judkiewicz tallying two points each. Judkiewicz netted two Nazareth goals, with Mia Abruzzese netting the other. The assists were split between Judkiewicz, Abruzzese, Amy Laskowski, and Logan Marchese. Mia Gonsalves got the start in net for Nazareth, stopping 16 of 17 shots for a .941 save percentage en route to a victory. After scoring early in the first period, the Pioneers went into the locker room for the intermission with a lead. However, this would not hold as 6:35 into the second period, Judkiewicz got the scoring started for Nazareth on the power play, as a breakdown in defense left her and the net wide open for an easy tap-in from the left faceoff dot. Marchese was credited with her first assist of the game on the goal, alongside Abruzzese. Starting the third period, the score was tied 1-1, but 30 seconds into the frame, Abruzzese made a power move to the net and went five-hole to put the Golden Flyers up one. Nazareth later scored an insurance goal nearly 13 minutes later into the period, courtesy of Judkiewicz, with their defense shutting down the final Pioneer opportunities.
