What does it mean to make something permanent in a world obsessed with speed and disposability? Through fire, steel, and the rhythm of the hammer, Onni explores blacksmithing as more than a craft, but as a practice of presence, patience, and intentionality. Onni believes that by forging metal, we learn to forge connections. He argues that connecting to the things we create also connects us to ourselves and the people around us. Onni has Icelandic and Finnish heritage. In addition to learning blacksmithing, he translates Old Norse literature into English and writes poetry. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
