Skimming is used to get the main idea of an article and its structure. It should be used to quickly get an overall understanding of what an article is about. This understanding provides a context which will make it easier to understand specific facts and guess unknown words. Knowledge of the structure will make it easy to find where answers are located within a text and save you the time of having to look through a whole article when you attempt to find answers to questions.
